Miloš Jovanović and Olga Đurić, members of the Kolarac Youth Board, reveal how they became involved with Take Over and what their favourite thing about the project has been so far...

Miloš Jovanović

Why did you want to become involved in Take Over?
I saw an open call and decided to apply for the project. The Kolarac is a really prestigious venue so it seemed like a wonderful opportunity.

Have you done anything like this before?
I have been involved with similar things in the past, but nothing so specifically involved with new audiences and classical music.

What is your role in the project?
Our youth board wanted to get going on events straight away so we’ve already programmed a few events in Kolarac, however our big focus is for the performances in November. For these we’ve divided ourselves into different project roles including programming, design, marketing and logistics. I’m part of the group that will be programming the music events but we’re all working really closely together as well.

What about working with the venue?
We’ve been given real freedom from Kolarac. I was really surprised about how much we have been able to ‘Take Over’.

I have really enjoyed working with the brilliant young minds who make up our Youth Board and so far it’s been a really good experience for me.

Do you see this leading to a career in arts management?
Take Over has really encouraged me to get involved in more programming. We actually hope to continue as a group after the project is over, but that won’t be for a while yet!

Would you recommend Take Over to others?
I would encourage other people to take part in the Take Over project. Particularly my friends and peers.

Olga Đurić

How did you hear about the Take Over project?
I think I heard about the project via Facebook and applied in April this year.

Have you done anything like this before?
I’ve never organised events in an arts venue before but I’ve done volunteering and been involved as a gallery assistant, so in a more passive way than this project.

What is your role in the project?
For our events I am working with the programming team to create an art exhibition. This exhibition will run alongside our concerts and talks and be a really key part of the Take Over events.

How have you been enjoying it so far?
At the moment I am trying to balance my studies and working on the Take Over project which has been a challenge, but I am really enjoying working with the team and I think the best is yet to come.

Do you think you would like to do programming / event management in the future?
Through the Take Over project I’ve become really interested in programmes and arts management. I don’t know what direction I want this to take me in at the moment, but I definitely feel encouraged by the project.
